Meet our Board

Chairwoman of the Board – Ms. Jodi Butts – Ms. Butts is an experienced mission-oriented lawyer and executive. She brings a wealth of experience in the health sector, having help leadership roles including Senior Vice-President of Operations and Redevelopment at Mount Sinai Hospital and Executive Director of Rise Asset Development. She enjoys significant governance experience, previously serving as Governance Committee Chair of the Wellesley Institute and a member of the Board of Governors and Audit Committee of the University of Windsor. As a lawyer and entrepreneur, she was a founding partner in a successful boutique litigation firm. Ms. Butts has a proven track record in leading organizations to achieve positive change and growth as a governor, leader and founder.

Managing Director – David Anonychuk – Mr. Anonychuk is a metallurgical engineer with 20 years of copper, nickel and zinc experience. In 2011,Mr. Anonychuk was recipient of the prestigious Bedford Canadian Mining Leader Award given by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum for displaying outstanding future leadership potential in the industry.Mr. Anonychuk is also a pioneer and strong advocate for antimicrobial copper use in the Canadian market. He was the former President and Chair of Board of Directors for the Canadian Copper & Brass Development Association (CCBDA), where he had the vision to bring antimicrobial copper to the Canadian marketplace. In 2011, he created the “Antimicrobial Copper Expert Roundtable” with leading Canadian infectious disease physicians. In 2014, under Mr. Anonychuk’s leadership, the CCBDA successfully received regulatory approval from Health Canada to make public health claims for antimicrobial copper and copper alloys – a first in Canada.

Managing Director – Jon Dwyer – Mr. Dwyer has extensive start-up and private equity experience, with a track record for leading companies from the start-up phase to cash flow. Mr. Dwyer led Flax Energy Corp, a business operating in the food, fuel and animal feed sector. Along with his team, Mr. Dwyer built the 3rd largest biodiesel reactor in Canada, on three acres of land in the Toronto port lands. Flax Energy was the only company in Canada to be federally regulated to manufacture food and fuel in the same facility, holding national contracts with Canada Bread and many others. Mr. Dwyer was CEO of HS Mills an artisanal milling company, and most recently, Mr. Dwyer served as COO of Specialty Chemical Industries, an international broker in the automotive safety product industry servicing fortune 400 customers. Mr. Dwyer is co-founder of the series and the published author of “Michael Burke” and “an evening with Robert Service”.

Mr. Geoff Browne – Mr. Browne is the Managing Director of MWI&Partners, a private equity firm. He has held senior executive positions with public and private financial institutions over the past 30 years. He also serves on the Board of several companies.

The Hon. Michael Kirby – Hon. Kirby serves as Chairman of the partners for Mental Health. He was a member of the Canadian Senate from 1984-2006 and served as the Chair of the Audit of the Bank of Nova Scotia. He currently serves on the Board of several public companies. Until 2005, he was Vice-Chair of the Accounting Standards Oversight Council.

Mr. Tom Portman – A Founding Shareholder of Aereus, Mr. Portman was previously a founding partner of Convoy Custom Interiors. It was Mr. Portman’s desire to find a protective coating for exterior wood products that led to the development of a metal coating application. His extensive experience as a custom interior builder in both Canada and England provides the Corporation with insight into the challenges of architectural functionality and materials application. Mr. Portman has a background in architecture from Ryerson College for Architectural Technology and the Conestoga College of Architectural Products Technology Diploma.

Mr. John Schram – Mr. Schram has extensive experience in the health care field. He serves as a Director of several private companies, including Wellpoint Health Services Inc. (occupational health and safety), AlphaCare Inc. (software solutions for homecare organizations) and Accreditation Canada (a not-for-profit organization that accredits Canadian hospitals and healthcare organizations). From 1999-2013, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of We Care Health Services LP. Prior to that, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Simon and Schuster’s school companies in New York.

Mr. Fred Schwartz – Mr. Schwartz has over 30 years of experience in executive positions in the energy business. Until 2014, he served as the Senior Director, Business Development of Northland Power Inc. Through various senior executive positions he developed substantive relationships and experience with processes and procedures related to the United States Department of Defense.

Mr. Stephen Schwets – Mr. Schwets is a Founding Shareholder of the Corporation and served as the Chief Financial Officer until February 2015. He is a chartered accountant and has been a partner at Gilmore & Associates since 1996. He obtained a Bachelor of Math (Hon.) from the University of Waterloo and has been a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario since 1991. Mr. Schwets brings to Aereus more than 20 years of experience in all areas of public accounting.
