Company History

Many copper alloys were tested before Aereus found the perfect blend.

Aereus Technologies began in a lab at the University of Toronto where researchers and engineers developed an innovative thermal technology that applies a thin layer of vaporized metal to any solid substrate.

Using its proprietary application technology, Aereus’ engineers worked closely with a group of microbiologists to test the antimicrobial efficacy of copper alloy coatings. Trials and scientific studies were conducted at local academic and healthcare institutions, including George Brown College, the University of Toronto, University of Waterloo and the University Health Network.

These trials verified that Aereus Technologies had developed an antimicrobial coating that can reduce infection rates.

In 2013, Aereus Technologies launched Aereus Shield and became a member of IPAC Canada, Canada’s Community and Hospital Infection Control Association.
